Where to Stay in Ayodhya

Sleep near the temple for an early darshan, or base yourself in Lucknow and visit for the day.

Staying overnight in Ayodhya changes the visit: you can be at the temple when it opens, rest through the heat and return to the Saryu for the evening aarti. The town has added many hotels since 2024, from branded four-star properties on the outskirts to small guesthouses in the lanes near Ram Path.

Location matters more than star rating here. Vehicles cannot reach the temple area, so a simple hotel within walking distance can be more convenient than a larger one several kilometres away. During Ram Navami, Deepotsav and long weekends, rooms sell out and prices rise sharply — book as early as you can.

Dharamshalas and ashrams

Ayodhya has many dharamshalas, ashram guesthouses and trust-run pilgrim lodgings, some of them very close to the temple. They are simple and inexpensive, usually booked directly by phone or in person rather than on hotel websites, and often fill with groups. If you plan to use one, confirm your booking in writing and carry ID for every guest.

Booking tips

  • Check the actual walking distance to the Ram Janmabhoomi Path entrance, not just the “near Ram Mandir” label.
  • Ask whether the hotel can be reached by car on festival days, when central roads are closed.
  • For early trains or flights, confirm that a taxi can be arranged at that hour.
  • Choose free cancellation where possible — fog and crowd restrictions can change plans.

How far ahead should I book?

For ordinary dates, a few weeks is usually enough. For Ram Navami, Deepotsav, 22 January and long weekends, book months ahead.
