Sita ki Rasoi

Sita’s kitchen

Sita ki Rasoi — “Sita’s kitchen” — is a small shrine on the north-western side of the Ram Janmabhoomi area. It commemorates the kitchen in which, tradition says, Sita first cooked for her new family after her marriage to Ram.

It is a symbolic temple, not a functioning kitchen. Inside are images of the four brothers — Ram, Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughna — with their wives Sita, Urmila, Mandavi and Shrutakirti, and a display of traditional kitchen implements such as a rolling board and pin. Sita is honoured here as Annapurna, the giver of food.

Top things to do at Sita ki Rasoi

See the shrine of the four couples

Sita ki Rasoi is one of the few places where all four royal couples of the Ramayana are worshipped together.

Notice the symbolic utensils

The simple vessels and rolling board recall a custom in which a new bride prepares the first meal in her husband’s home.

How to get to Sita ki Rasoi

  • On foot: the shrine lies close to the Ram Mandir complex in Ramkot. Because it is next to the high-security zone, the approach route has changed several times — ask volunteers or police at the Ram Mandir exit for the current way.
